Orana Adult Learning run a wide variety of classes. All classes are listed below with a short description of each class and what you can expect from participating in them.

Australian History

We have examined the reasons for the settlement of Australia and the development of the first settlement. Now, we are exploring the establishment of all the Australian colonies and their separation from NSW. Everyone is finding out just how little we know of our own history and the individual stories can be fascinating and sometimes hilarious.
Learning occurs with much laughter and friendship and we all go home energized for the rest of the week.

Women Through the Ages

History is full of wonderful women, women who have achieved all sorts of extraordinary feats in a wide range of fields, from education to government and everything in between. Yet, we know very little about them. We’ve all heard of Catherine the Great and Mary Queen of Scots, but there are thousands of others whose stories are little known. So every week we learn about another inspiring woman. Whether she be from Ancient Rome or present day Australia, you can be sure there is something for all of us in learning about her life.
Once again, the emphasis in the classes is on laughter and friendship – after all, the best way to learn is when you are having fun.

Counted Cross stitch

Counted Cross Stitch
Cross stitch is one of the oldest forms of embroidery dating back to the 6th or 7th century AD, and can be found all over the world. It is both simple and versatile and has the ability to create intricately shaded images. At the Centre it is worked as a counted technique on evenweave fabric such as linen or blockweave fabric such as Aida. There are many uses – create beautiful pictures for framing, decorate towels, cushions, linenware, make personalised cards or smaller items such as book marks, pin cushions and Christmas tree decorations.
