Volunteer

LOOKING TO VOLUNTEER WITH US?

There are many volunteer opportunities within Orana across both Sutherland and Gymea sites. We could not do what we do without our amazing volunteers helping us every day. Volunteering opportunities include reception and office duties, community meal programs, In-home weekly support for families with new borns and toddlers, cafe and kitchen or even just weekly food collections.

We would love if you could apply via the application form!

Looking to support a new Mum in the Sutherland Shire?

This service would not be possible without our volunteers. To become a volunteer with the Early Support Service, Coordinators will provide you with an application form. If you are successful you will be part of a full day of training that needs to be completed prior to being matched with a family.

Volunteers attend a training day, sign a contract, provide verification checks (Working With Children Check and Police Check) and then are linked with a family in and around the Sutherland Shire area. They visit their linked family on a weekly basis for 2-4 hours, for up to 12 months providing hands-on help and practical and emotional support for stressed parents.

We ask our volunteers to have the ability to commit to at least six months with the service and the family they are matched with. This allows sustainability within the program and continuous support for the family they are matched with.

Factors we consider important for volunteers are:

  • Parenting experience or experience with babies and small children.
  • We also require volunteers to be functionally fit and mobile to be able to undertake the role required.
  • A flexible, friendly and non-judgmental attitude.
  • Non-smokers are preferred due to Work, Health & Safety issues and client expectations/preferences.
  • Access to a car to attend home visits is desirable.
  • There is an expectation that volunteers who are accepted and complete our training will commit to a minimum of six months of home visiting.
